The Scottish Dog Trainer was established to support dog owners who understand that kind, ethical and force free reward based training is the modern and only way to train puppies and dogs.
Based in Stirling and covering central Scotland we offer group classes from new puppy right though to advanced, 1-2-1 training for puppies and dogs of all ages and backgrounds plus monthly workshops on recall and loose lead walking.

Suitable for all dogs over 6 months and offering intense, focused training classes with the opportunity to make great progress in just 8 weeks. The comprehensive programme has been carefully designed to take you through everything that a young dog needs to learn plus some fun stuff!
Dogs become adolescents from around 6 months onwards and the “teenage” period can last till around 2. Just like we did as teenagers they surge with hormones such as testosterone and dopamine, many experience growing pains too. This really is a crucial time to knuckle down with dog training as their behaviours are highly likely to change just as their bodies do.

It has been scientifically proven that new puppies are in a critical time window of their early development from the moment that your bring them home. Getting it right at the early stages is vital in ensuring their future behaviours, confidence and life skills.
This 90 minute appointment will offer advice to help with the initial stages of training your puppy and helping you both to adapt to life together. If you are a first time puppy owner you’ll find it useful to boost your own confidence in getting your puppy off to a good start.

Ideally suited for those for whom class is not suited or practical and need some training help and support with specific issues. These sessions are 90 minutes and entirely tailored to you and your dog, so that you can decide what is most important, whether it be recall, pulling on the lead or any other training related matter.
This session will be followed up with training notes and guidance. Further appointments are entirely optional, if you have a generally well behaved dog and just need some extra help in a particular area then this is the option for you. Training can be done in your home, garden or nearby outdoor space. You will also receive a bespoke training plan tailored to your specific needs.

We hope that there are many special events and parties in your life and there will be some when you want your beloved dog to be there, for some of the celebrations at least. We can step in to care for your dog so they can have fun when you are occupied and bring them along as and when you require.
We are besotted with all dogs and love to help them be included at special times. We have fully insured pet transportation, we can have them bathed, spruced up and smelling wonderful for you and your guests, and we will take lots of pictures too!

Consultations 3hrs
This intensive and focused training is suited to those who are experiencing specific issues or have concerns with their dog. You will receive an initial 2 hour assessment of your dog’s behaviour followed by practical training to help you put into place the exercises and changes you’ll need undertake that will encourage more positive behaviour from your dog. You will also receive a detailed training programme and a one hour follow up visit to ensure you are on the right path and make any adjustments/introduce any other training as required.
We will choose and advise on the best training techniques and any enrichment activities that will be beneficial to help your dog overcome any anxieties or other unwanted behaviours that may be occurring. There is nothing that can’t be changed with kindness, understanding and scientifically proven reward based dog training methods.
Changing a behaviour can take time therefore we require that you have a positive attitude, can commit to 15 minutes training per day and that everyone in the house works together and follows the training programme to achieve the best results.

Ideally suited for busy owners and dogs who appreciate a lot of exercise. Walk & Train is designed to support dogs that are generally well behaved and have already undergone some training.
Think of it as fun exercise with fine tuning combined.
Super for improving recall, loose lead, learning fetch or any other skills you may want them to enhance. We suggest at least one session per week and advance booking is highly recommended as spaces as very limited.

Group Classes – What to expect and what to wear!
All classes are a maximum of 6 puppies or puppies/dogs per class, this ensures that you both receive the absolute best attention. You will have your own station which includes a raised bed and a long line for training, these are hygienically cleaned after each class. There is a 5 metre distance between you and the next station to help with limiting distractions. Fresh water, poop bags and a mop are all readily available.
Please exercise your dog for 10 minutes prior to class, this not only gives them a toileting opportunity but helps reduce excitement levels. Please arrive and depart promptly and in a calm manner. There is a 15 minute window between classes to allow previous class to leave safely.
Please bring an ample supply and variety of treats or toys whichever your dog prefers.
For puppies and younger dogs we recommend you bring a lick matt, chew or stuffed Kong that which will keep them content during advice and information stages. Your puppy/dog should be neither hungry nor overly full prior to class.
Puppires/dogs should wear either a flat collar or harness with a standard length lead. Rope lead, choke chain, halti and retractable lines are not permitted.
